WHO: Actor-singer Diego Boneta’s credits include “90210″ and “Pretty Little Liars” as well as Mexican soap opera “Rebelde.” He most recently starred in “Rock of Ages” opposite Tom Cruise and plays Miles in MTV’s upcoming scripted series “Underemployed” from “Dirty Sexy Money” creator Craig Wright.
WHAT: The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic is a comprehensive care and treatment facility dedicated to assisting children in South Texas with cancer and blood disorders. The facility’s goal is to provide all patients with the highest quality of health care regardless of their financial capacity. No child is turned away due to an inability to pay.
WHY: “The Rio Grande Valley has special meaning to me because it’s where my mom grew up,” Boneta says. “When I was younger, I spent many of my summer holidays and Christmases there. I also still have family living there, so I have a real personal connection to the place — that and the fact that I’ve always loved kids made working with the clinic a great opportunity.”
WHAT’S NEXT: The Jerry Jeff Walker benefit concert presented by Friends for Hope takes place on Nov. 3, and the annual Radiothon happens Feb. 16. Proceeds from both events go to direct patient services at the Cook Clinic.
Diego is nominated for the 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards! You can vote for him at almaawards2012.com (register) for “Favorite Movie Actor” for his role in Rock of Ages

WILL BRAKE FOR FANS: “I was in Brazil after a concert. We were leaving the show at Maracanã Stadium, which was in front of 120,000 people, and all of a sudden the van stops. There were 10 fans lying down in front of the van saying, ‘We’re not moving unless we get an autograph and picture. If not, run over us!’”
A ROLE FOR THE AGES: “I remember it was a Thursday, and all of a sudden news leaks that I booked Rock of Ages, without me actually booking it. I’d never had a migraine in my life, and I get this migraine that lasts three days. I was like, ‘If I don’t get this, I’m gonna look like the biggest asshole.’”
